I'll be honest—I can’t stand it when companies hide unpleasant ingredients behind commercial names.
First, it’s against the law, as all ingredients must be listed according to the INCI system, which does NOT allow the use of commercial names.
Second, it misleads consumers. When people see parabens listed (for example, the mysterious “Phenonip XB” is actually a mix of Phenoxyethanol and Methylparaben and Ethylparaben and Propylparaben), they are likely to avoid the product. However, "Phenonip XB" sounds more like a random string of letters and doesn’t raise any concerns.
Parabens can cause contact dermatitis (not in 100% of cases, of course, but it’s common enough). This is why five parabens are completely banned in Europe, and the others are strictly regulated because they are suspected of disrupting the endocrine system.
At Skinjestique, we never hide anything in our ingredients list under commercial names. And, of course, we don’t—and never will—use parabens in any of our products.
