Does retinol need a break from retinol?

I often hear about many experts advising to take a break from actives. Especially from retinoids. Is it necessary to do so? Let's get to the bottom of it 🥸

First of all, I'd like to point out that they ask for pauses in care often because a person doesn't see more results from the asset, which is the plateau effect. That is when you have reached the maximum results from an asset/ingredient. So, for example, I've been using both peptides and retinol for a long time, so no product with these actives is going to give me a wow effect on me. Should I continue to use them then? Of course!!! After all, I need to maintain the results. For example, if I abandon my skincare for a month (and I expect that won't happen because I always bring a suitcase with Skinjestik + SPF), I'll immediately remember that my complexion is red, inflammation is my old friend, and wrinkles started to form in high school because my skin is prone to dehydration.

As for retinoids, their function of binding to retinoid receptors isn't going anywhere either. Therefore, no pauses in application should not be made, we consider pregnancy as an exception (as a reinsurance), but I would like to emphasise that external retinoids, which are used in cosmetics, do not get into milk or blood, so you should not be afraid of them. We're only doing this because of over-insurance.

What is really addictive: antibiotics, so their use is allowed ONLY under the supervision of a doctor, so that there is no risk of antibiotic resistance. Therefore, ‘Zerkalin’ themselves from acne do not prescribe. And hormones are also used only on the prescription of the attending physician. Good news: neither antibiotics or hormones in cosmetics NO. It is strictly regulated by rules and laws
